It looks identical to the original, but the second-generation Ultra Wideband chip inside extends Precision Finding to roughly 1.5 times the previous range, and the speaker is up to 50% louder - which is the difference between hearing a bag under a sofa and not.
Attach one to keys, a wallet, a suitcase or a bike and it appears in Find My alongside your other Apple devices. Anonymous, encrypted relaying through the Find My network means it can be located far beyond Bluetooth range, and no one - including Apple - can see where it has been.
